MEET KEVIN
Kevin is a gorgeous, rough-coated Lurcher, born in 2022, who has recently come into our care through the stray dog system.
Although he arrived as a stray, we’ve been fortunate enough to receive information from a previous owner, giving us a much better understanding of the home Kevin will need.
Kevin previously lived with another dog, but sadly, after living together peacefully, he unexpectedly attacked the other dog. For that reason, we will only consider homes where Kevin is the only pet. This is non-negotiable, as his safety and the safety of other animals must come first.
We have also been told that Kevin is muzzle trained, and from what we’ve seen in our care, that makes sense. Around other dogs, he can be a little unpredictable. Eight out of ten dogs he’ll happily ignore, remaining calm and relaxed, but every now and then he’ll react to one. We don’t yet know what triggers those reactions, and with time and training that may become clearer, but for now we have to manage the dog we have in front of us.
Kevin is a lovely boy with people, but because we know very little about how he copes when left alone, we’re looking for a home where someone is around for much of the day while he settles in. Any time alone should be introduced gradually and at Kevin’s pace.
As with many Lurchers, Kevin is athletic and capable of clearing surprisingly high fences, so he’ll need experienced owners who understand the breed. Until he’s fully settled and reliable, walks should be on a long line, and any garden must be secure. We don’t take chances with dogs like Kevin—his safety is far too important.
Kevin already has a number of applications that have transferred with him from his original post, so it’s possible he could be reserved over the next few days. However, if you feel you could offer him the experienced, pet-free home he needs, we’d still love to hear from you.
