Hello… I’m Boris.
Everyone says I look like an XL Bully.
To be honest, I don’t know what that means. I only know I’m me.
I love cuddles. I love leaning into people. I love a soft bed, a kind voice and a gentle fuss.
But apparently, none of that was what decided whether I got to live.
A tape measure did.
When I was measured by the police, I came in just under the legal height, and we have confirmation that I’m exempt.
Just under.
Less than half an inch.
Think about that for a moment.
If I’d been half an inch taller, I wouldn’t be writing this.
I’d still be the same Boris. I’d still have the same gentle nature. I’d still have the same squishy face that loves kisses. I’d still want nothing more than to curl up beside someone who loves me.
The only difference would have been what a tape measure showed would of said i must die
That is how close some dogs come to living or dying in this country.
We know many people will look at me and say, “That’s an XL Bully.”
But before you see my shape, my height or the label attached to me, please see ME
A gentle, affectionate boy who simply wants a chance.
Because of my unknown history, I can’t live with children or cats, and I need a foster home where someone is around most of the time while I settle in. I may be able to live with a spayed female dog but she’s need to come to the kennels to meet me.
If you can offer me that, I promise I’ll repay you with all the love my big heart has to give.
Pendle Dogs would like to add just one thing. Whatever your views on the XL Bully legislation, Boris’s story is a heartbreaking reminder that, for some dogs, the difference between life and death can come down to a tape measure measuring just a fraction of an inch. Boris is one of the lucky ones. Many others haven’t been and that thought makes our heart hurt
